Rehab in Thailand

Thailand has become a popular choice for people from the UK seeking drug and alcohol rehab, mainly because of cost and setting. It can be a good option, with the right checks. I've done both UK and Thailand. Hope Rehab was a wonderful experience and the best rehab I attended.

This page lists rehab centres in Thailand fairly, shows what they charge and explains what to look for before you travel. Nobody pays to be listed or ranked.

Before you book rehab abroad

Check the clinic's Ministry of Public Health licence, ask who the doctors are and where medical emergencies go, get travel insurance that covers treatment, talk to your GP about detox before flying, and agree an aftercare plan for when you're home.

Why people choose rehab in Thailand

The usual reasons are lower cost than private UK rehab, all-inclusive pricing, quieter settings and distance from everyday triggers. The trade-offs are travel, being far from family, and aftercare that has to be arranged back in the UK. Weigh both.

How rehab is regulated in Thailand

Established private rehab centres in Thailand are licensed by the Ministry of Public Health. Ask to see the licence, and check doctors with the Medical Council of Thailand. Some centres also hold international accreditation; ask which body and check it on that body's own website.

Rehab by area

  • Chiang Mai: home to many of Thailand's best-known international rehab centres, in the north.
  • Phuket: island setting in the south.
  • Bangkok: the capital, with the main international airport.
  • Koh Samui: island in the Gulf of Thailand.
  • Chiang Rai: quieter province in the far north.

Frequently asked questions

How much does rehab in Thailand cost?

Prices vary by clinic, room and length of stay, and most centres quote one all-inclusive price. Our listings show each provider's own prices, including what's included.

Is rehab in Thailand safe?

Yes. But of course, with the distance, it's not for everyone. Make sure you do the right checks, speak to them and get a feel for what's on offer. Look for a Ministry of Public Health licence, qualified doctors and a plan for medical detox and aftercare.

Do I need a visa for rehab in Thailand?

It depends on your nationality and length of stay. Check the current rules with the Royal Thai Embassy in London before you book.

What happens after rehab in Thailand?

Ask before you go. Good centres help arrange counselling, support groups or outpatient care for when you're back in the UK.

Can I fly if I'm still drinking or using?

Talk to your GP first. Stopping alcohol suddenly can be dangerous, so some people need medical detox before travelling.
